Studio Macuna was commissioned to lead the creative direction and animation team for the drama-documentary Waco: Madman or Messiah, which explores the rise and fall of David Koresh and the infamous Waco siege.
We designed a series of animated sequences inspired by the bold, graphic style of 1980s cartoons. These animations were woven into survivor interviews and layered with live-action footage, archival news clips, and chilling audio recordings of Koresh himself as a bridge to help to capture the surreal and disturbing nature of the events.
The two-part documentary premiered on A&E in the US during prime time and received strong critical reception, holding an 8/10 rating on IMDb.
